About Us
Somali Voices Enabled (SVE) CIC is a community-led organisation dedicated to empowering and uplifting the Somali community, especially women and girls. Founded after a coffee morning where Somali women openly discussed the challenges they face, SVE was established to address critical issues such as mental health struggles, language barriers, discrimination, housing, and support for children with special needs. At the core of our mission is the drive to end harmful practices like FGM and to advocate for women’s health and family well-being.
Through advocacy, education, and community engagement, SVE provides a safe space for the voiceless to be heard, ensuring that their needs are met and their concerns are addressed. Our grassroots approach is rooted in lived experience, fostering trust, empowerment, and meaningful change within the community. We work tirelessly to bridge the gap between vulnerable individuals and the services they need.
Our Programmes
At Somali Voices Enabled (SVE) CIC, we offer a variety of programmes designed to uplift and empower the Somali community. Each of our programmes is tailored to address the unique challenges faced by Somali women, families, and youth, providing them with the tools and support they need to thrive.
SVE unlike other organisations, delivers FGM awareness training by a professional and community person with lived experience of FGM. This essential insider training offers a perspective and understanding that is rarely accessed due to the silence and trauma generally surrounding FGM
Advocacy and Support
We provide a platform for Somali individuals to raise their concerns and access free advocacy services, ensuring that their voices are heard in areas such as housing, education, and healthcare.
Education and Training
Our workshops and training sessions focus on raising awareness around mental health, FGM, and other vital topics, equipping community members with knowledge and skills for personal growth and empowerment.
Family and Youth Engagement
We run programmes that strengthen family bonds, provide youth mentorship, and offer resources for parents and caregivers to support their children’s development, especially those with special needs.
FGM Awareness and Support
Dedicated to ending harmful practices, we provide education and advocacy against FGM, offering a safe space for survivors and those at risk.
